MFOS Challenge Day 29

Day 29 @myfacetsofstyle challenge: Statement Earrings #photoaday #mfoschallenge #jewellery #statementearrings

The Golden Globes were filled with stunning statement earrings like this Lorraine Schwartz pair on Taylor Swift.

I recently purchased this Art Deco inspired pair.

Tuesday Treasures - Glamorous Goth

While at school I was very into the Goth scene with a hint of Punk. If you look at my wardrobe there is still majority black clothing. In October 2011 The Guardian's Louise Tickle wrote an article about how people stay a part of the Goth scene well beyond their 20's. So if Goth is here to stay at any age 2012 demonstrated how Goth can be stylish.

Rooney Mara and Kristen Stewart were two celebrities that showed of a darker and yet stylish side.

Rooney Mara showed an edgy, structured, minimalistic approach to her red carpet outfits. I especially adored her Golden Globes Red Carpet Nina Ricci Gown. I have a little confession. Normally I appreciate looking at the Red Carpet gowns, I do. However, if they are not wearing much jewellery my magpie eyes are off looking for the next person. With this dress I didn't mind her not wearing any, I felt it was the right choice (never thought I would say that).

Kristen Stewart wore a beautiful lace Marchesa dress at Snow White and the Huntsman London Premiere. She wore lace again in London in the form of a Zuhair Murad jumpsuit at the Twilight Premiere. On the catwalk I adored Versace's Fall 2012 contribution to the world of Glamorous Goth.

Versace showcased crosses and here are some beautiful cross jewellery inspired by them.

Topshop Cross Rosary

The Great Frog London Skeleton on Cross Pendant

Crosses are synonymous with the Goth scene as is skulls. As the MFOS Challenge draws to a close I am thinking about the month of February. At first I thought about one piece of heart jewellery every day. I changed my mind. The last day of the photo a day challenge is skulls and I am a goth girl at heart so I will post a piece of skull jewellery every day in February. I am in no way commenting on valentines day. I am happily married and will be celebrating my 10 year wedding anniversary on the 6th. To start the ball rolling and to show skulls can be romantic I had to post a pic of Kat Von D's engagement ring. I love a black diamond.

MFOS Challenge Day 28

Day 28 @myfacetsofstyle challenge: Hair Jewellery #photoaday #mfoschallenge #jewellery #hairjewellery

Gwen Stefani is rocking this hair jewellery. I love how Gwen is stylish, edgy and glamourous.

I was once told by a stylist that my hair is hard to work with. It is exasperated by the fact that I am currently growing out it out. I am trying to do more with my hair and accessories are a great way to transition through this nightmare length. I'm considering getting my fringe cut back in and sporting this stunning flapper style piece from ASOS

MFOS Challenge Day 27

Day 27 @myfacetsofstyle challenge: Plastic Fantastic #photoaday #mfoschallenge #jewellery #plasticjewellery

I love designer and diamond jewellery. Unfortunately from a distance. To be honest I am more of a goth, punk, edgy girl. I have a lot of tattoos and love edgy jewellery. I adore punk plastic jewellery like this one from Punky Pins.

My contribution is one of the few pink things I own. I got this one from Accessorize.

My floral ring is a little more understated from Pilgrim.

I love that anything can be jewellery. All you need is your creativity. I really miss making jewellery and a rope necklace is a great place to start. This necklace can be made simply by using old jump ropes.
Check out the tutorial here.

They can be as simple or as complicated as you like. Here is another tutorial for this easy to make bracelet.

MFOS Challenge Day 18

Day 18 @myfacetsofstyle challenge: Pearls #photoaday #mfoschallenge #jewellery #pearls

Nothing says sophistication like Audrey Hepburn wearing her signature pearls in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

This multi-strand necklace could have the Audrey feel by adding a brooch.

MFOS Challenge Day 17

Day 17 @myfacetsofstyle challenge: Cubic Zirconia #photoaday #mfoschallenge #jewellery #cz #cubiczirconia

Let's face it. We would all rather have diamonds. However, I can't imagine Harry Winston allowing me to wear that stunning necklace Jessica Alba wore to the Golden Globes to do the school run. I  would given half the chance. So for those of us tight on the funds and wanting the sparkle we have to look to a cheaper alternative. Cubic Zirconia is an option to add a bit of glitz to my day.

This is my Cubic Zirconia offering from Ernest Jones. It makes a good alternative till I can have the real thing (hint hint).

My simple cross bracelet.

Tuesday Treasures - Golden Globes

On Sunday night it was the 70th Golden Globes. The Red Carpet is always the best place to see some incredible pieces. Before I recap the nights best looks here are some of my favourites from last year.

Diamonds are usually a large feature of the red carpet. However, I thought Jenna Dewan's Opal earrings by Irene Neuwirth were incredible.

In true awards night fashion diamonds made a huge impact in particular Sofia Vergara's Bracelets by Harry Winston. These bracelets didn't just make an impact because of the overall $5 million price tag of her jewellery or the 62.72 carat bracelet. They had an impact all their own because of the beauty of the craftsmanship. The amount of sparkle didn't hurt though.

This Lorraine Schwartz turquoise statement necklace worn by Heidi Klum was able to shine as she paired it with a nude Calvin Klein dress. I love when they let the jewellery do the talking.

Hair jewellery was also a big look for the evening. My favourite was Charlize Theron's 1920 headband by Cartier. I'm sure it provided many brides a stylish alternative to a tiara.

Emerald really seemed to be the colour of the night worn by several celebrities including Julianne Moore. She wore these elegant emerald tassel earrings.

So to this year.

Yet again earrings made a real statement on the red carpet.

In Lorraine Schwartz Taylor Swift was stunning, Megan Fox went for a softer tone and Naomi Watts was striking in Rubies.

One of my favourites was Katharine McPhee wearing stunning deco style earrings.

Tina Fey's Fred Leighton earrings were beautiful.

Carla Gugino also went for a seriously big earring statement.

It wouldn't be a red carpet without some serious hollywood glam showcasing diamonds. 2013 was no exception with Harry Winston who wowed again on Jessica Alba and Jessica Chastain.

Chopard also brought the hollywood glamour on Amy Poehler who wore a 83 carat Lariat necklace, Jennifer Lawrence and Olivia Munn.

Another regular feature of the red carpet is bracelets stacked. These bangles by Lorraine Schwartz worn by Connie Britton made an impression as did Julie Bowen.

Debra Messing wore Samira 13 and they added a bit of edge to a classic gown.

Emeralds are always my favourite. I am glad they were featured again this year. Lorraine Schwartz showcased some stunning emeralds on Lea Michele and Lucy Liu.

Kelly Osbourne was a major favourite for me in Emerald drop earrings from Jacob & Co and Morena Baccarin.

I have to mention Kate Hudson. She looked incredible. I love her red carpet looks. The dress was stunning and she accompanied her show stopping dress with Jennifer Meyer jewellery.

I thought it was a great night and I didn't see anyone make a huge mistake on the carpet. The jewellery for me was the real winner of the night.
